Program Overview

Islamic addiction counseling is an emerging field of work that brings together the wisdom of Islamic psychology with the practice of helping people suffering from addiction find solutions to their challenges. This program primarily focuses on the religious and theological aspects of the field, focusing on the unique ways Islamic understandings of the self, healing, and right living can help us better understand and treat addiction. A 15-week, fully online program, the IACC gives students an opportunity to learn more as it brings together experts in both Islamic psychology and addiction.

Core Values

How is the program administered?

The program is fully online and is lead by renowned experts in the field.

Who is this course designed for?

The Islamic Addiction Counseling Certificate is an online, graduate-level program designed for students, professionals, or scholars from religious, theological, mental health, medical, or a variety of other social impact fields of study. As such, this course is particularly relevant to people interested in learning more about how Islamic psychology can inform the broader field of addiction counseling. Thus, while there is a need for it, this is not a course designed for friends and family or concerned community members who would like to be able to better support their loved ones.

Is this course accredited?

No. This is a public course and attendees will receive a certificate of completion issued by RRSC at the end. This course does not prepare or train attendees for clinical practice. However, for attendees who are already licensed clinicians or working in the field of addiction treatment, it will inform your practice by giving you frameworks in which you can Islamically ground your work. It will also provide supplementary and background information for the general public, if interested in the topic.
